Dear Authors:
The difference between hundreds of sales and no sales is active promotion of your e-book and print book. There are many different ways you can get the word out about your book. Many of them are found in the tips and links. Also utilize our step by step guide to promoting your work and a list of reviewers.
Remember, if you are an active promoter of your books, they WILL sell!
Sirius Authors: Keep us updated on your promotional efforts, particularly book signings and chats which we list on our site.
Note: Readers and others who want to help promote the site should check the Reader Promotion page.
- Use Sirius Publications free email service, which will automatically promote us in your .sig!
- Create a signature for all your emails. Include a link directly to your book page.
- Create a web page through us or elsewhere. See this resource for more ideas about using your web page to promote your work.
- Contribute to online publications. Writing an article or submitting a short story will increase familiarity with your name and your work. If allowed, mention your book and/or your site in your bio or author profile.
- Give us your biographical information to place on our site. Also fill out the form to help us create your profile page.
- Send out a press release about your publication or send out postcards.
- Submit your book link to search engines. Follow the guidelines however, don't
submit the same link twice in the same week/month (depending on the engine.)
- Pass the word on to your friends, family, colleagues, total strangers....
Feel free to use our recommend the site button on the main page, and get
entered in the Amazon.com contest.
- Submit your book for book reviews. Be sure you have the current, edited draft of the book. If you prefer, you can have them contact us for a free reviewer's copy. You can find links at the bottom of this page to book reviewers.
- Submit your book to contests it qualifies for and let us know if you win
anything, including an honorary mention. Let us know about the awards
you find.
- Find another author who is also promoting a book and promote together. This divides up time and money.
- Take a copy when you go to meetings of writers or publishers and give them
our web address.
- Purchase books, of course. That means books by our authors and also books
from our affiliates. Help keep our prices down (at no extra cost to you.)
- Add a link to us at your web site (if you don't have one, we can host your
site free, or you can create one elsewhere.)
- Write a glowing review of the books by other authors that you have read
(if they deserve one!) at Amazon.com or BN.com (if available there.)
- Give the books as gifts.
Take a hard look at the things you are spending promotional time on and see if they are working. For instance, doing a mass mail out about your book to the best independent book stores is better time spent than mailing out to a list of possible readers.
What not to do: Don't spam newsgroups, don't send spam email about us. You and we will both get in trouble. However, if someone asks for a recommendation you could mention us, of course (even if it's on a newsgroup or mailing list.) If you're not sure what constitutes spamming, read about netiquette. For more about how NOT to promote your work, review this article.
