Our Trip to New York City

Please be patient as these pictures may take a while to load.

March, 2003 (Spring Break)

Our trip to New York City was short but fun. We stayed at the Hilton New Yorker in mid-town Manhattan for four nights. We got a special package from Paint the Town and had vouchers for the hotel and 2 meals, an attraction, and a broadway play.

We saw Cabaret at Studio 54. It was very entertaining and we recommend it! Neil Patrick Harris (best known as Doogie Howser, M.D.) played the emcee, and Deborah Gibson (who had a hit song in the 80s) played the lead, Sally Bowles.

Gerry had never seen the movie before, but I had seen it several times and liked it. We're planning to rent the movie soon so he can see that too.

We attended a taping of the Daily Show with Jon Stewart. We had to wait outside for an hour in freezing temperatures even though we called ahead to get tickets! They only let 100 people in and we ended up being number 85 and 86 (we were more like 30th in line after people held places for each other, isn't that rude? But there were a lot of VIP ticket holders who got to wait inside the building, I guess you have to know someone to get that.) It was pretty cool. They seated us in the first row, obviously not in the VIP area though (there was only stage right and stage left basically) since there was a giant camera in front of us the whole time-- except during the interview with Eric Idle (one of my idols!).

For our dinners, we ate at Nick's Positano, a ritzy restaurant, and Mickey Mantle's restaurant at Central Park. We recommend the pasta with sausage at Nick's and the garlic mashed potatoes at Mickey Mantle's.

We took a cruise around part of the island.
