Brunette #2 Ponytail (1959)

Here are some features of this doll and help determining if you have a rare and valuable #1 or #2 doll:

Key features:

White irises, black outlined pupils

Markings (on her bottom): Barbie™/Pats.Pend./©MCMLVIII/by Mattel/Inc.

Other features:

Brunette (more like black) hair (dolls came in blonde also, no other hair colors yet.)

A flocked head underneath the hair

Soft bangs that were made out of the same hair as her ponytail

Arched brows (upside down 'V' shape)

Vinyl that has usually paled -- often very pale (white) and smells 'like crayons'

Red lips (often faded)

Navy eye-liner

Heavy solid body (#1 has tubes inside her legs and therefore holes in the balls of her feet to position her on the pronged stand)

Red fingernail and toenail polish

Sold with black/white swimsuit, black '#1' shoes (i.e. shoes had holes in the bottom to fit on the stand), white sunglasses, Barbie™ booklet, black pedestal pronged stand (marked 'Barbie™', hoop earrings

Brunette Bubblecut

Glamorous Red Ponytail #5 (1961)

Markings: Barbie®/Pat Pend/ MCMLVIII by Mattel Inc. Japan on foot

Blue Eyes (came in a range of shades through torquoise blue)

Red lips

Curved brows (a bit more arched than the #3s' and #4s')

No greasy face, often found in these dolls. This was caused by the type of vinyl that was used.

Brunette Ponytail #6 (1962)

I inherited this doll from my Auntie Jan who passed away several years ago. Hopefully I can have it restored soon.

Description: Black hair, soft, most in original pony, no rubberband, very curly ends and bangs, not frizzy.

Watermelon lipstick 100%, Eyes and liner, blue 100%

Watermelon polish 100% on hands; 65% on toes

Markings: 11, Barbie R/Pat Pend/ MCMLVIII by Mattel Inc. Japan on foot

Probable type: 1962 #6 Transitional

Value: Priceless, of course (but valued monetarily at about $250)
