John Bellairs writes excellent 'spooky' mysteries. I call them gothic.. especially since gothic king Edward Gorey chose to illustrate many of his works. But they are really very hard to classify.. usually found in the juveniles section, they are appropriate, entertaining, and intriguing for any age from about 10 years old and up. They are usually shorter than a typical adult novel... but they are just the right length!
